Fishy characters
My passion for fishing and knowledge of different species of fish enabled me to name my characters without struggling to come up with a name not owned by a living person. If you read closely, almost every character is named after a fish, some even resemble the character. A few were named after parts of fish, like Mr. Finn, a substitute teacher who has a “tidal wave of a cow-lick" – like a fin on back of fish). Here are some of the characters and their fishy counterpart: |
Mr. Barracuda: He is the sadistic gym teacher who is a “physical proof that black holes exist; he sucks happy-go-lucky students into his personal black hole and spits out pathetic, shriveled up little boys whose penises have retracted into their bodies.” Barracudas have sharp teeth and kill its prey by bleeding them to death.

I had a teacher character named Mr. Herring who was an a bizarre incompetent English literature professor who threw students off with strange lessons (a red herring - a literary device inserted in a story to mislead the reader to false conclusions). He was one of my victims in the editing process.
Luderick: A play on the word, “ludicrous”. As Egg’s best friend, he often sprouted silly, odd conspiracies about such things as the snooze button on alarm clocks. He doesn’t mind Egg’s hearing impairment and genuinely thinks it’s cool. His first words when they met were, “Hey neat-o, those hearing aids make you look like a secret service man for the president."
